My name is Pat Schirmang. I was born at the University of Iowa hospital on October 16 1951. According to the county records in Iowa City, my birth parents were Harold & Helen Wield, and they listed their home address as Daytona Beach Florida. The doctor that arranged my private adoption was Dr Cal Stark, Cedar Rapids Ia. The doctor told my adoptive parents that the birth parents felt they could not afford another child. Apparently I have 5 siblings. My birth name was Terry Lynn Wield. My ado…

I am searching for my birth mother and family. I am male and was born in Dubuque, IA on Feb 17, 1964, at 10:17 am. My birth took place at Finley Hospital and I was delivered by Dr Jon(?)Graves. My adoptive parents were Bertha and Norbert Stuer (both deceased) who resided in Clinton, IA. The only thing my adoptive mother could tell me about my birth mother was that she was a "horse woman", which leads me to believe she may have been an equestrian rider during the 1960's. I would like to get to kn…

My daughter and I went to the recorder's office in Johnson County to look up the birth records on my birthday. In JC, the "seal" that is placed over a baby's record is a sticker. We did not remove and stickers, but you could tell that people had done so. My record had been pulled up and pasted back down previous to our visit.
My birth name was baby girl Rhodenbaugh. My mother's maiden name is Josephine Frances Neuburn age 37, I also found the birth record of one brother who is five years older…

I was born Barbara Sue Shank, on 04/13/1946, at State University Hospital, Iowa City. I have never made an effort to contact any member of my birth family. I have always considered myself to be very lucky. I grew up in a terrific home with wonderful parents and lots of extended family, and have always been grateful to my birth mother for making the choice to place me where she knew life would be better for me.
I have recently been curious to know if she's still living and if I have any siblings.…

I have 'minimally' been searching, as I cannot afford to have someone else find family. I would like to know about family, especially what to expect medically. I know records are sealed except as needed for 'life/death' situations, and I think that is kind of unfair. I think people should have to the right to know their roots. My adoptive parents have told me different stories as to why I was adopted, and it is confusing. Although, being adopted, I can 'fantasize' about where I come from--lol. I…

I was born at Mary Lamb Hospital in Clinton, IA on April 10, 1971. I have papers that state I was baby girl Steffey before I was adopted. It also says that my birthmother's name was Diana L Steffey. I don't have any other information on her or have had information that might lead me to her. Hope to figure out more about private adoptions and how to obtain information.
Thanks,Alicia

Another place to search. Pretty good info, but another registry that's hard to search. I don't have a lot of time to review it tonight, but check it out for yourself. I registered my info and searched the message boards.

I am Sooo tired of the pathetic search engines/databases that have been created (with good intentions, of course) to assist adoptees and their birth families in search of each other.
Here's another to add to the list:

I was, once again, very excited to find abother registry... but once again, my hopes were dashed at it's ability to search the data. Without a surname, you're pretty sunk from the start. Anyone who was born through a closed adoption without…

THE LOCATOR is a new program to unite birth families.
The website has valuable options:

Including the registry:

Every step is one step closer. Every one lost lead, is one lost lead closer to the right path.
